bbno$ Morrison reviews
Van is his own person
I have seen bbno$ over the last 25 years, sometimes bad & sometimes good, but he is always true to himself. Instead, I wanted to see bbno$ engaged; fresh takes on material & in the moment. Once you accept that bbno$ is his own person, who cares about the music & what is right for him at this moment, you can sit back enjoy the show. I was hoping to hear Astral Weeks, but was not heart-broken that it was not played. It is because I am willing to accept bbno$ the artist, that I was able to completely enjoy his concert at the Meyerhoff. He did not rush the song, he did not mumble through it; but it was tweaked/spun. bbno$ sang Moondance as an engaged artist. I loved Help Me, On Hynford Street, Philosophers Stone, Fair Play, Solid Ground, In The Garden. I could have done without Gloria played as it was & Brown Eyed Girl. Maybe they wanted to hear more of his hits, although even Gloria did not raise them out of their seats. I wish the rest of the crowd was interested in traveling on the journey with bbno$. I don't know. I also would have liked to see more expansion of the songs from bbno$, especially And the Healing Has Begun. No lip synching here. You never know when that gem, that great moment will come from him. From my spot in the relatively cheap seats ($122), the people sitting in the front rows were not engaged. Maybe they were expecting Astral Weeks and would have come alive if bbno$ had gone down that road. bbno$ needs to keep it fresh for himself & for us. I was happy for the ride and the gems he gave me last night. In my opinion, his voice has improved over the years & he is not past putting out a good show. That, in my opinion, is why he needs to be heard live. If someone does not understand bbno$, they will be disappointed. I deliberately went alone to this concert because as a bbno$ fan, I am willing to go where he will take me, but if you are willing to accept bbno$ the artist, you can completely enjoy his concert at the Meyerhoff.
